In today’s part of the Supreme Court confirmation hearings, to decide whether or not Sonia Sotomayor gets the job, Al Franken asked a potentially damaging question, perhaps not even realizing it. He jokingly challenged Sotomayor to name the case that Perry Mason lost. She couldn’t.
For those who don’t read Barack Obama’s White House-promoted biographical ‘essays’ about Sonia Sotomayor, he’s the inspiration for her wanting to become a judge. She watched Perry Mason all the time, growing up. He was a major formative building block in her character, if the propaganda is accurate. Franken’s reply, was to suggest the White House should have prepared her for the question. It does raise an interesting point. Why would the White House know more about her personal history than she would? I can think of one likely reason. They fabricated a history, or embellished reality to fit a certain ’spin’ they wanted. If we can’t trust Obama’s people, can we trust him to have picked the right candidate? Why make it up? Also, couldn’t they have made up something more interesting? Perry Mason is a bit cliche, for a team of people working for “Mr. Change”, isn’t it?
Another possibility, is that Sonia Sotomayor embellished her own history, because it might look more ‘colorful’ to the public eye. It makes sense, given that Sotomayor didn’t know this basic detail about the show. Seems to me, that if Obama’s people were working up this ‘faux’ background for her, they’d at least familiarize her with it, in case it came up in conversation, like it did with Al Franken. So, her response makes the most sense with her being the source. If she lied about this, what else has she lied about? Hard to say, since she ducks and dodges most serious questions. I wonder how Sonia Sotomayor would handle Sonia Sotomayor. She’s supposed to be this big tough judge. What might she do, if she were asking someone a question on the stand, and they repeatedly refused to answer? As a judge, she’d probably have that someone locked in a cell to cool off for a while. I seriously think that if you’re appearing before the U.S. Senate, and you dodge questions in reference to an appointment, openly, you should be denied that appointment, always. No one should be rewarded for refusing to cooperate.
Everyone, please urge your Senators to vote *NO* to Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation. She does not deserve the job, if she can’t be truthful.
